Lynda Burnett

Degree(s) and school attended:
Attended Louisiana State University for three and a half years and graduated from Nicholls State University when my husband took a job in Houma. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary and Special Education.

What motivated you to become a teacher?
I love children and have always enjoyed being around them. I babysat often in high school and knew that I wanted to have an impact on young children's lives. I love the excitement they
show when they learn something new and how much fun simple things can be to them.

Why did you choose to teach at Trinity?
Actually, my children started school at Trinity and I became involved with their classes. I started working at Trinity as Mrs. Jewell's aide, but became a first grade teacher in the middle of that year.  I have been teaching at Trinity ever since, and I am currently in my 25th year.

What do you want your students to gain from you and your classroom?
I want students to enjoy learning and be curious about the world around them. I want them to learn that there is no such thing as, "I can't do it." With practice and effort, you can do many things you may find difficult. I want them to have respect for people who may be different, and understand that
everyone has special gifts. I want them to learn to express themselves with words in a respectful and kind way. I hope my students remember a year filled with learning and fun.
